The Church of the Annunciation, located near the Norman-Swabian Castle of Morano Calabro, is one of the most fascinating historical and artistic landmarks of the village. A branch of the nearby Church of the Saints Apostles Peter and Paul, it has been active since the 15th century, although its construction may date back to an earlier period, contemporary with the castle’s construction.
The interior of the church is characterized by a sober and essential appearance. Originally, the building consisted of a single nave, to which a lateral nave was added in the 19th century, followed by the construction of the sacristy.
Among the artistic and devotional elements inside the church, visitors can admire:
In 1614, the Confraternity of the Annunziata moved from the Chapel of Santa Maria d’Itria, and the church took on its current name.
The feast dedicated to the Madonna Annunziata is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May, involving the local community in age-old rituals and traditions.
